Day 1 - Norris bend

After arriving by coach from Echuca settle in as Emmylou departs Torrumbarry upstream, take the opportunity to savour an afternoon Devonshire tea while enjoying the picturesque views and acquainting yourself with fellow cruisers.

You may chat with the skipper in the wheelhouse to learn about PS Emmylou’s river history, relax in your private cabin or relish a drink in the saloon during “Happy Hour” as the sun sets.

In the evening, the crew will have a riverside campfire ready for you to enjoy after a chef-prepared welcome dinner at Norris Bend. Keep an eye out for kangaroos, wombats, and birds as you bask in the river birds’ evening chorus and the emerging stars.

Simply an outstanding piece of Australian History. My sister and I had the most amazing three nights on the Emmylou. The staff were exceptional, each person made sure you were cared for, from Julie’s big smile as she welcomed you into the saloon each meal, Greg our chef and his amazing meals, will need to loose a few kilo’s from the trip now. Geoff’s love of steam engineers, we discovered he has his own steam engine at home, he really did know every detail, and was always happy to have a chat.

Day 2 - Onshore Tour & perricoota Station

After a hearty breakfast, PS Emmylou will cruise to the famous Perricoota Station. You’ll have the opportunity to board our coach to visit Restdown Winery, joining the property’s owners for a guided tour along a 1.4km wetlands walking trail, highlighting items of Aboriginal significance before enjoying a gourmet lunch of local produce and wine tastings.

Afterward, you’ll walk along the historic buildings and immaculate gardens of Perricoota Station before enjoying a fabulous dinner on Emmylou’s deck overlooking the famous property and river.

The night will conclude with a fascinating documentary featuring archival footage of the paddlesteamers and communities of the Murray River.

We recently travelled with Murray River Paddlesteamers on the PS Emylou for a three night cruise from Echuca to Torrumbarry Weir. The three night cruise which included all meals and alcohol (with meals) provided an excellent way to enjoy both the scenery along the river and the experience of travelling on an old paddlesteamer with its associated history. This, complemented by the friendly, knowledgable and efficient staff made for an excellent long weekend away. Scott, our Captain for the cruise, managed the rising river and the strong currents with ease, whilst simultaneously providing expert commentary along the way. The on shore excursions, at the 'beer can' museum (which proved to be so much more!) the winery, the old sheep station and the weir, led by Scott were excellent. The food provided by Andrew and Julie and the steam engine history lesson from Anthony topped off a great weekend away. Highly recommended.

Day 3 - All Day Cruising & Layfield Lane

For early risers and avid photographers, the morning mist and wildlife around Perricoota is a spectacle to behold. Enjoy a full day of cruising upstream towards Layfield Lane with lunch on the deck or in the saloon.

Afterward, experience a grand dinner on the riverbank with our signature Australian BBQ, followed by live entertainment and casual conversation around the campfire (weather dependent).

Day 4 - River Cruising & Echuca

Begin your day with a hearty breakfast to prepare for an exhilarating half-day expedition encompassing both land and water. Embark on the guided Henry Hopwood Town Tour, a captivating journey through the quaint town of Echuca, where you’ll unearth hidden historical treasures such as Hopwood’s Punt and the pontoon bridge. This bridge, conceptualized by Echuca’s founder, Henry Hopwood, stands as the original river crossing point in the region.

Prepare to be captivated by the 110-year-old PS Canberra, boasting a red gum timber hull constructed in 1912 at Goolwa, South Australia. Indulge in morning tea aboard this vessel before delving into a guided tour of the Port of Echuca, immersing yourself in the abundant history of Echuca and the Murray River.

Upon returning to Emmylou for lunch, your river cruise adventure continues upstream, passing by the impressive Port of Echuca Wharf, which was once bustling with over 100 paddle steamers during its prime.

Day 5 - Silo Tour & Layfield Lane

Prepare yourself for an engaging half-day expedition that will immerse you in the beauty of local artistry and historical vignettes. The day kicks off with a visit to the breathtaking local art silos situated at Rochester and Colbinabbin. These awe-inspiring artworks, adorning the still-operational silos, vividly depict life in the 1880s, offering a captivating glimpse into the past. These larger-than-life paintings are a testament to the region’s rich heritage and are sure to leave an indelible impression.

Your excursion doesn’t just end with the visual feast of the silos; it extends to a delightful lunch at a renowned local pub. Here, you’ll not only savor delicious fare but also have the unique opportunity to interact with the pub’s welcoming owners and engage in lively conversations with the friendly locals. It’s a chance to soak up the authentic charm of the area, sharing stories and experiences while relishing a fabulous meal.

As you reboard the Emmylou, get ready to unwind during the afternoon cruise downstream with a relaxing Devonshire tea. The serene ambiance of the river complements the delectable treats served, providing a perfect backdrop for a leisurely afternoon. As the sun starts its descent, the ship comes alive with Happy Hour festivities. Savor a refreshing drink in the ship’s saloon while basking in the scenic beauty surrounding you.

As twilight sets in, a magical experience awaits you at Layfield Lane. Following a sumptuous Australian BBQ dinner served on the riverbank the atmosphere transforms with live entertainment around a crackling campfire under the sparkling stars.

Day 6 - Onshore Tour and River Cruising

Today you will experience the perfect start to your day with a delightful breakfast before embarking on a captivating half-day land and river tour that promises to be an unforgettable journey.

Your adventure begins with a visit to the fascinating Heritage Farm Museum, where you’ll immerse yourself in the charm of the past. Next, get ready to be enchanted as you join the Murray Explorer, a magnificent vessel that will take you on an Eco Expedition cruise along the upper Murray River. Prepare to be awestruck by the natural wonders that surround you, from breathtaking landscapes to a rich array of wildlife. Keep your eyes peeled for White Faced Herons and you may even find and you may even find a King Fisher, all this along with a captain’s commentary.

On your return to Emmylou, we visit Morrisons Riverside Winery for a quick tasting of their fabulous table and fortified wines before returning to Emmylou for an afternoon tea service as you continue downriver towards Deep Creek Marina.

Enjoyed a fantastic 3-night cruise on the Emmylou out of Echuca. The staff were all first class and couldn't have been more accommodating and helpful. The food and beverages were of an excellent quality and the itinerary and land activities along the way were very informative. Something therapeutic cruising down the Murray with the gentle whirring of a steam engine and side paddles. Highly recommended
