Revisit the romance of Australia's Paddlesteamers
Enjoy the spectacular scenery of Australia's longest river, The Murray, aboard the world's only cruising wood-fired paddlesteamer and Australia's most luxurious boutique river cruise. PS Emmylou will step you back to the romantic days of Australia's Paddlesteamers. The side-wheel paddlesteamers are distinctly Australian having first plied the Murray river in 1853, establishing a thriving industry which survived until rail and roads began to service the region near the turn of the century. Whether your a nature lover, a budding historian or culture enthusiast, a leisurely journey on PS Emmylou will delve you into the beauty and pioneering history of the Murray River.
On our premier 4 night tour guests will enjoy leisurely cruising 180km's of the winding upper Murray river. Cruising aboard a traditional wood fired paddlesteamer engages your senses from the moment you board: feel the warmth of the 1906 steam engine as the engineer stokes the boiler with Redgum logs, climb up to the wheelhouse to chat to the Skipper, or just sit and gaze at the changing reflections in the water and listen to the lilting rhythm and swish of the paddlewheels as PS Emmylou takes you back to a bygone era of romantic travel.
During this cruise step off the vessel to experience tours highlighting places of geographical, historical and Aboriginal cultural significance as well as some quaint riverside wineries. Visit the Toorumbarry Weir to learn about the basin and lock system and tour the historic Perricoota Station, first built in 1843 and Arbuthnot Red Gum Sawmill for an insight into the history of the area. Tour Restdown Winery, an organic wine producer and enjoy a local lunch with the owners. Stretch your legs on a wetlands walk to learn of the Aboriginal heritage of this land and embark on a small boat eco cruise through the UNESCO World Heritage listed Barmah Forest in search of local flora and birdlife in the world’s longest strand of Red River Gum. With evenings spent on the river bank around a campfire and under a beautiful night sky, this journey is sure to be a highlight of your holiday.

Seeing the Murray River from the EmmyLou is an absolute must do. What an amazing way to experience the majestic river from a different point of view. As someone who grew up living on the banks of the river i never knew i could fall more in love with its beauty but when you see it from the EmmyLou its hard not to fall completely head over heels. Her unique look and sound only adds to the experience, she's won my heart as well! If i ever have the opportunity to board again i will be there. The 4 night cruise was well planned, not too busy, not too slow and was just as relaxing as the journey. Staff are amazing, the food was delicious and the accommodation was just the right amount of comfortable cosy-ness!
