New Heritage Cabins

Welcome to your home aboard Paddlesteamer Emmylou, named after the famous American Country singer Emmylou Harris. We invite you to relax in a warm, inviting atmosphere of mid 1800’s riverboat charm without sacrificing modern conveniences. From September 2018 Emmylou will feature new cabins with fine linens and plush new bedding which will ensure you are well rested to fully enjoy your time aboard with us.

Emmylou will now also feature her own Suite in the best location with sprawling views of the river. You will feel like “the King of the world” as you open your French doors and step out onto your veranda looking straight down the mighty Murray River. The Emmylou suite is the largest aboard with interior lounge seating and Sofa-bed which can accommodate a third guest. Guests enjoying Upper Deck Cabins will now be able to choose from double or twin cabins all with private ensuites, with doors opening to the outside upper deck affording neighbouring guests the unique opportunity to enjoy a social atmosphere, swapping stories and forming lasting friendships with fellow travellers. Our cosy Main Deck Cabins are also being refurbished and will now feature their own shared ensuite on the same deck. From our cosy Main Deck to the Emmylou Suite PS Emmylou now has accommodation for a variety of lifestyles and budgets and will feature free Wifi throughout the boat and cabins.

    Early evening the PS Emmylou departs historic Echuca, the Paddlesteamer Capital of Australia and heads down river while you enjoy a welcome drink. As the sun starts to set over the river enjoy a fabulous 5 course dinner as we cruise under floodlight. Watch for the many species of birds and the nocturnal wildlife as they appear on the banks as we cruise to our overnight mooring at Dead Horse Point where we moor for the evening arriving late evening.


    After breakfast we commence your half day excursion traveling to Barmah where you enjoy an Australian morning tea before it is all aboard MV Kingfisher for a Wetlands Cruise with expert guide to share the secrets of the local flora and birdlife. Your cruise travels the narrowest section of the Murray River, called ‘Barmah Choke’ where the river travels at almost twice the normal speed. The Murray River here ranks as the world’s largest stand of River Red Gum. It is a wildlife haven for 236 bird species, 50 mammals and more than 500 plant species.

    After your cruise, we visit Morrisons Winery overlooking the Murray River to enjoy a 2-course lunch with complimentary tastings. You have time for a walk through the vineyard or just relax with a glass of wine on the deck overlooking the Australian bush and river before we travel to the glorious Perricoota Station.

    The Station was first settled by James Maiden in 1843 to become a famous Merino Sheep & Fruit property. Free time this afternoon to explore the vast property and homestead before joining your fellow passengers for a fabulous dinner in the restored Woolshed overlooking the river before retiring to your cabin


    Before breakfast enjoy a nature walk along the riverbank and explore the beautiful gardens and homestead before we set sail for a full day’s cruise up river. Time to relax with that favorite book or visit the Skipper in the wheelhouse to try your hand steering the Emmylou, or just take in the natural beauty of the river, birds and wildlife. After a leisurely lunch, you are welcome to join in helping the Chef make some traditional Australian Damper which will be cooked in a camp oven in the boiler by the Engineer ready for afternoon tea with fresh local jams and cream. What could be more Australian!

    Early evening, we pull into our mooring at Layfield Lane. Here you can take a swim in the river, go bushwalking, try your luck fishing or relax with a pre-dinner drink. Tonight, enjoy an Australian BBQ and campfire with toasted marshmallows.


    After breakfast, we return this morning to the Port of Echuca arriving at 9.00am where we say farewell.
